Balthasar Maffre's Chest
A puzzle trail through Bastide Saint-Louis — at your own pace, with no guide and no group.
Lucas Maffre needs your help.
It is 1688. Lucas is a cloth merchant in Bastide Saint-Louis. His neighbour, Séraphin Bosc, claims ownership of his family warehouse — and the proof that could settle everything is locked inside a chest secured by three padlocks.
The combination exists. His grandfather, Balthasar, hid it in nine places across the Bastide. But Balthasar was a seer — he saw the future — and he described places that did not yet exist in 1688.
Lucas can read the letter. He cannot see what it describes.

Balthasar's chest
Nine stops.
Nine digits.
Three padlocks.
At each stop, Lucas reads you an extract from Balthasar's letter. You observe, you count, you write down your digit. Léo — Lucas's ten-year-old son — is there to help younger players.
At the end, you put your nine digits together to form the combinations for the three padlocks. Three attempts. Not one more — Balthasar would not have wanted that.
And if you open the chest, Lucas will share his favourite addresses in the Bastide.
